Gardening Tips: Pests
Rose Slug
The rose slug is a little worm-like critter that skeletonizes leaves on roses. It is not actually a worm or a slug but the larvae of a sawfly wasp. They can be hard to see. They are the same color as the underside of the leaf, where they are usually found. If your rose leaves appear lace like you may have this problem.
Many typical rose sprays do not control the rose slug. Our favorite organic control is Spinosad, which is a bacterium. Sevin is an effective chemical control. Spray the undersides of leaves at the first sign of damage.
